Pyne & Smith dresses are made to be a comfortable, relaxed fit, and we proudly offer XS - XXL. For more info, please visit the size guide page! Our clothing is made in small batches, so sizes do sell out. Sign up for our newsletter to learn when our dress re-stocks happen.

For an accurate guide to what size you should order, it’s important to know your bust measurement - you’ll need a measuring tape to measure your bust, waist and hip size (Bust size is not bra size, but measuring around the fullest part of the bust). Please don't hesitate to e-mail me with any questions regarding sizing:

Buttons & pockets

All of the dress styles that are shown with buttons are fully functional - they unbutton! We transitioned from wooden buttons to corozo nut buttons in 2018. Corozo nut buttons are a sustainably harvested, natural material button and it is ethically made. You can read more here.

Pockets? Every Pyne & Smith dress has pockets!

What is Linen?

Linen is made from the Flax plant. Flax plants are harvested and prepared for weaving by going through a laborious, time consuming process of drying, threshing and retting.  When the finished material is ready to be spun into yarn, it resembles bunches of long, blond hair. Hence the term “flaxen” for light haired folk.

The flax material is then spun into thread and dyed to the colors that we specify in our custom fabric designs and woven into the finished 100% linen that we use for our dresses.

An environmentally friendly product,  every part of the Linen flax plant is used to make linen fabric, so there is no waste, and it requires less water and chemicals to grow and cultivate, additionally the flax plant enriches the soil it is grown in. When the flax is made into the yarn it develops 'Slubs', Slubs are not a defect in the fabric, they are a part of the character of the Linen. Sometimes the slubs will fall off, but it’s best to leave them on there and not cut them off, as this can form a hole. If it does bother you, you can use needle to push the slub into the inside of the dress.

100% flax Linen fabric (which is all we use for our dresses) is incredibly strong and durable (it's 30% stronger than cotton). Linen will last for 10 times that of cotton before showing signs of wear. It actually improves with age, so each wash makes your linen softer.

Why wear a Linen dress?

Linen is wonderfully cooling in the heat, but it is equally as versatile for cool weather, and will keep you warm in the winter. In addition, Linen is hypo-allergenic and highly breathable, making it a wonderful fabric for sensitive skin.

We live in a fast paced world, but I believe the comfort, simplicity and purity of my dresses will inspire you to slow down a little, take time to create memories and feel perfectly comfortable doing so.

Please allow 3-5 business days before your dress will ship - sometimes it may take a few days longer when a new collection launches, due to the higher volume of orders. All dresses ordered within the US will be shipped via USPS priority mail, which has a tracking number and typically takes 2-3 days.

For international orders, your order is sent via regular mail, and shipping usually takes 2-3 weeks, but can be longer depending on the mail service.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS: Please note, customs fees and holds charged by your country are unfortunate - but not our responsibility. They are charged on most countries outside of the USA (especially the UK and Canada).  Please use this calculator to estimate the charges you may be responsible for.

What if my size is sold out?

All Pyne & Smith garments are small batch made, in order to be sustainable. Our sizes do often sell out. The good news? We re-stock at least once after a collection is launched. So, for Spring/Summer, we usually re-stock in May. During Fall/Winter, we usually re-stock late in November. To be notified of a re-stock, sign up for our newsletter. (scroll down this page and it’s at the bottom!)

How do I wash my dress?

All Pyne & Smith garments come to you pre-washed. Hand or machine wash on gentle in warm water. Dry by laying flat, or tumble dry on low heat. Do not bleach. Do not use oxygenated detergents that contain hydrogen peroxide such as Oxyclean or Vanish on the buttons. Do not soak or steam buttons.

We recommend embracing the beautiful, crumply look that makes linen so unique! If you need to iron, it helps to iron the garment while it is still moist. Do not iron to a crease.
